Restoring the Past : Preparing for the Future

For more than one hundred years now, there has been an enormous amount of pride exhibited by the families and parishioners of St. Benedict Church.  This pride was and still is justified, because of all the wonderful accomplishments that St. Benedict has achieved since it's founding in 1902.

Our present Church, with its stately Bell Tower, was constructed in 1917 and has been a beacon of our Catholic faith in the North Center neighborhood ever since.  Our church with its Bell Tower has been an identifying landmark in our neighborhood, standing proudly on Irving Park Road as a reminder that what we do is done for the honor and glory of God.

As you may be aware, our Bell Tower is in need of repair.  Several chunks of limestone have fallen from the tower and that presents a hazard to those who pass by on the sidewalk below.  It is unfortunate that the landmark that has so proudly dominated our great Chicago neighborhood is now a frail and weakened structure that is literally falling apart.

The leadership organizations of our parish have determined that we need to repair this structure now.  Construction experts have closely examined our tower and have estimated that it will cost $1.3 million to repair our tower, install news clocks, and restore the bells with a modern functioning system.  In order to raise these funds, we must ask our generous parishioners, local businesses, and community leaders for help.  Please consider making a one-time donation to our "Restoring the Past: Preparing for the Future" campaign.

We thank you for your support and ask your prayers for the success of our new project.

We Are Many Parts..

St. Benedict Parish reflects the true presence of Christ and His church in our community. Our century-old church is the foundation of our parish. Upon this foundation rest our schools and an abundance of community ministries. In the daily life of our parish, parishioners and staff, individually and collectively, answer Christ’s call to love and service, and St. Benedict’s example of prayer and work. Strengthened by the Holy Spirit, we serve our church, our schools, our community, and the Universal Catholic Church.

Our volunteers, committees, commissions, pastoral council, and staff shepherd the work of our parish. Our parishioners bring life to that work.
